84 Years of Brand Success

Founded in 1938, CornerStone Wines is South East Asia’s oldest wine merchant with footprints through subsidiaries/joint ventures and distribution partners in 28 countries.

Proudly and still 100% family owned, they continue to endeavour to find like-minded partners in countries yet covered to extend their family of partners. CornerStone Wines can trace its roots back to the late 30s where it was a humble store that sold every possible produce from rice to alcohol. Currently at the helm of the family-owned business is Clinton Ang, the third-generation owner. After his father’s passing in 2003, Clinton took on the reins as the Managing Director and propelled the business to even greater heights. The company has agressively expanded regionally in Asia, and Clinton continues to fly the family flag high and well beyond the confines of Asia to Oceania and Australia.

One of the main pivots of success has been the joint venture brands developed since 1997. They contract the best valued vineyards, ferment, blend and age the best valued wines for sales under their own brands. Some of the brands are CornerStone, Cora, Vino+, XII and counting… Sales growing over 1.2 million bottles in over 28 countries and their brands are being served on several international airlines.

It all started with a bold move that Clinton launched in 1997. This is a brand of wine that would be better suited to Asian cuisines. Interest in Asian food was on the rise then and Clinton saw the opportunity to penetrate the market with a Wine that will pair extraordinarily with asian cuisine. That wine would be CornerStone.

Their ONLINE local and regional sales portal continues to be the main driving force of reach and expansion. They have been featured in several media channels due to their innovativeness and creative business expansion.

This year CornerStone Wines celebrates 84 years in the trade and envisons to have the whole region HIGH on LIFE, and FULL of the SPIRIT.

Ployez Jacquemart Extra Quality Brut NV

Ployez Jacquemart Extra Quality Brut NV

France . Champagne

Blanc de Blancs(100% Chardonnay)

FULL-BODIED WHITE WINE. Richness, Elegance and Luxury

Laurence Ployez is a third-generation winemaker at her family's estate, which was established in 1930. Ployez-Jacquemart owns 2.15 hectares of Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards in Ludes and Mailly-Champagne in the Montagne de Reims, known for its classic chalk slopes; in addition, Laurence purchases Premier Cru and Grand Cru grapes from 12 hectares of vineyards from growers that the family has worked with for over 20 years. All of the work in the vineyards is done by hand, from the beginning of the growing season until the grapes are harvested.

Unlike most producers in Champagne, she strives to keep the characteristic of each vintage even in her NV blends and only uses a very small amount of reserve wine, if any at all. Only first press juice goes into the Ployez-Jacquemart wines. A light filtration is used for wines produced in vats, but no filtration is used on wines aged in wooden barrels. The wines undergo a very slow bottle fermentation in a 25-meter-deep cellar, giving them extremely fine bubbles. Wines are aged nose-to-punt, or sur pointe, in lieu of being aged on their side; aging sur pointe provides the antioxidative and aging benefits of the lees while not allowing the wines to become too rich from the lees contact. When the wines are ready to be disgorged, after up to 12 years in the cellar, only a very minimal dosage is added, typically 3-4 grams per liter. Ployez-Jacquemart's goal is to leave the structure of each wine intact, allowing the true character and personality of the harvest to shine through.

Thompson Estate Four Chambers Chardonnay 2021

Thompson Estate Four Chambers Chardonnay 2021

Australia . Margaret River

Chardonnay

MEDIUM-BODIED WHITE WINE. Age-worthy alternative Burgundy style

In just over 50 years, Margaret River has skyrocketed into a world-class producer of Chardonnay.

The styles of the wines here are different from the rest of Australia - you find the richness of fruit and ripe flavours, but you have restrained elegance thanks to the cooling influence of the ocean surrounding them.

As a heart specialist, Peter Thompson has spent his professional career learning how a balanced contribution of each of the Four Chambers of the heart is essential to the balance of life. Wine also demands a balance of viticulture, winemaking, maturation and presentation. The joy of making wine in Margaret River can liberate a certain passion and creativity which the Four Chambers range expresses.

Thompson Estate have been producing premium and super premium chardonnays for nearly 20 vintages. As Ray Jordan kindly pointed out recently, Thompson Estate “Has been one of the premier chardonnays from Margaret River for some time now” and John Lehman reiterated in The Australian “The Thompson Estate Chardonnay has scaled the heights over the past decade to be among one of Margaret River’s most consistent high-quality offerings.”

Raymond Usseglio Le Peche Originel Sans Soufre 2020

Raymond Usseglio Le Peche Originel Sans Soufre 2020

France . Rhône . Châteauneuf-du-Pape

100% Cinsault

MEDIUM-BODIED RED WINE. Organic & Biodynamic

Ancestral grape variety crus from the Valley of Rhone, this cuvée is 100% Cinsault from old vines planted in sand between 1961-1962. Fully vinified in concrete tanks and without sulfur added to preserve all the finesse of its grape variety and its land.

Domaine Raymond Usseglio & Fils is an estate in Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the southern Rhône Valley. It is best known for its flagship Châteauneuf-du-Pape rouge, Cuvée Impériale, which is a classic southern Rhône blend made predominantly from Grenache.

Francis Usseglio emigrated from Italy to Châteauneuf-du-Pape in 1931 and started winemaking in 1948. His two sons, Pierre and Raymond Usseglio, followed in their father's footsteps and established their own estates – Pierre inherited his father's estate, renaming it Domaine Pierre Usseglio & Fils, while Raymond founded Domaine Raymond Usseglio & Fils in 1963. Raymond's son, Stéphane, took over the reins of the domaine in 1999.

Today the estate stands at 24 hectares (59 acres). The majority of this hectarage lies within the boundaries of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and the remainder in the Côtes du Rhône.

They are certified organic (ECOCERT) and practice biodynamic agriculture because it is essential for them to preserve and respect as much as possible the life and balance of our terroirs and their vines.

Siglo Gran Reserva 2001

Siglo Gran Reserva 2001

Spain . Rioja D.O.Ca

Tempranillo, Graciano, Garnacha

FULL-BODIED RED WINE.

Rioja is arguably Spain's top wine region and is one of only two regions classified under the Denominación de Origen Calificada (D.O.Ca) system. Its two most important red grapes are Tempranillo and Garnacha.

There are four categories of red wine in Rioja. The youngest of these is “Joven”. “Crianza” wines are required to age for a minimum of 2 years, with 6 months spent in oak barrels. The next level is “Reserva” in which the wine ages for a minimum of 3 years, with at least 1 year in oak barrels. Finally, the most mature wines are labeled “Gran Reserva”. These wines mature for minimum 2 years in oak barrels, followed by at least 3 years in the bottle.

This older Gran Reserva from 2001 has more developed flavour profiles, earthy characteristics, and are better suited to aging.

Velenosi Verso Sera 2019

Velenosi Verso Sera 2019

Italy . Abruzzo . Montepulciano d’Abruzzo D.O.C.G

100% Montepulciano

MEDIUM TO FULL-BODIED RED WINE.

Ranked among the top 10 wines from this region with respect to number of awards won: the 2018 vintage was awarded Gold from the Berlin Wine Trophy, and the 2019 vintage was awarded Silver from the London Wine Competition.

This is the highest-priced Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Colline Teramane wine. The price has been rising over the last year.

Velenosi is an Italian estate based in the DOC wine province of Piceno in Marche and Abruzzo.

The soils in their Abruzzo estate are of sedimentary nature, a mixture of Pliocene and Miocene origin.

The clay is well present but moderated by the skeleton and by a sufficient presence of sand and silt. Remains of ocean floors that embellish our wines with a characteristic minerality.

The estate is characterized by sinuous slopes: the vineyards, thanks to the arrangement that goes from south to south-east, benefit from prolonged exposure to sunlight and this positively affects the growth of the plants and the ripening processes of the grapes. The altitude - 264 meters above sea level - and the proximity to the mountains and the Adriatic Sea, allow the morning winds to reach the rows and dry the humidity of the night, avoiding the development of pathogens. The climate is that of central Apennine Italy, with a relatively harsh winter, cool and humid spring, hot summer and long and temperate autumn, with abundant rains that arrive after harvesting. A unique terroir to give wines that are an expression of the land and, respecting it, tell it.
