Custodians of Luján de Cuyo’s terroir

Casarena is a winery specialized in creating wines purely from the terroir of LujĂĄn de Cuyo, with special focus on the development of amazing Single Vineyards. The vineyards, located in LujĂĄn de Cuyo, are planted in alluvial soils with a distinctive mineral component.

Due to the varying degrees of soil composition, elevation, and climate/ sun exposure within LujĂĄn de Cuyo, we are able to create markedly different profiles within a varietal... showcasing the unique expression of each Single Vineyard.

Mendoza, Argentina

Mendoza, Argentina

Wine growing region of excellence

Casarena honors Mendoza, the Argentinian province with the most award winning wines.

The high desert of Mendoza presents the ideal environment to nurture the precious fruit. With over 300 days of warm sun and cool crisp nights, the vines are sparingly fed snowmelt from the caps of the towering Andes Mountains; pristine water that meanders its way down through the mineral-rich alluvial soils
urging the roots to dig ever deeper through terroir of varying composition. Entrusted by passionate professionals to be harvested at peak ripeness, Casasarena prefers to let the fruit shine through in its interpretation of historical varietals with and outstanding continental expression.

Mendoza, LujĂĄn de Cuyo is the home of Casarena.

The Estates

As custodians of the terroir of LujĂĄn de Cuyo, Casarena look for properties with different geographical situations, vineyards of different age, and diversity as in height, in orientation and composition of soils.

They have deeply explored each soil in the vineyards to show all the expressions of their wines from the same area.

Casarena has four properties: Jamilla, Lauren, Owen and Naoki strategically located in Perdriel, Agrelo and Alto Agrelo.

Casarena Winery

Originally built in 1937 with architecture that is European in nature, the winery was renovated in 2008 with the latest in vinicultural technology, careful to maintain the original character of the structure.

Casarena is located on Brandsen Street, in the heart of the Perdriel district in LujĂĄn de Cuyo. Brandsen, for many people, is the most emblematic street for Malbec in all of Argentina... and is located 20 minutes outside of the city of Mendoza.

With its most recent improvements, Casarena now has a capacity of 925,000 liters: 650,000 in concrete vats, 175,000 in steel tanks and 100,000 in oak barrels.

The winery has been equipped with a specially designed environment for 400 French oak barrels; temperature-controlled space with a programmable humidification system to preserve the wood.

The distinctive wines of the Single Vineyard line pay homage to the region’s history, each offering their own unique expression.

CASARENA AREYNA Torrontés 2020/2021

CASARENA AREYNA Torrontés 2020/2021

Argentina . Mendoza. LujĂĄn de Cuyo

Torrontés

Light-BODIED WHITE WINE. Aromatic, Moderate Acidity and Sweet

Argentina’s very own white grape varietal is actually a group of 3 varieties that are natural crossings with Muscat of Alexandria. TorrontĂ©s Riojano is considered the best.

Even though TorrontĂ©s can smell sweet, it’s usually dry to taste, making it a great match with savoury dishes that feature exotic spices, fruit and aromatic herbs.

CASARENA OWEN Single Vineyard Chardonnay 2019

CASARENA OWEN Single Vineyard Chardonnay 2019

Argentina . Mendoza. Agrelo

Single Vineyard Chardonnay

FULL-BODIED WHITE WINE. Rich cross of Burgundy and Californian styles

For those who love oaky and creamy styles of Chardonnay, Mendoza offers fruit-forward wines laced with baked pastry and nutmeg notes. This style is highly prized and commended even with those folks at James Suckling.

Owen Estate

Finca Owen, located on the mythical Calle Cobos, is called "the survivor" among its people. Traditional grapevines from 1933 stand as sculptures among its alleys. The variety of soils that change every few meters is striking, which allows a great work of micro-terroir. Finca Owen is the genetic asset of LujĂĄn de Cuyo.

Single-vineyard means that the grapes are from only from Owen estate vineyard. Casarena understand that the grapes reflect the terroir of the vineyard so it is important to recognize this on the label. Terroir, a French word pronounced tair-wahr and loosely translated as a “sense of place”, means that everything in the vineyard contributes to the distinctive flavour of that particular place. Soil, slope, drainage, elevation and particularly the microclimate (think Andes Mountains morning fog) influence the aromas, tastes, texture and structure of the finished wine.

CASARENA RESERVADO Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

CASARENA RESERVADO Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Argentina . Mendoza

Cabernet Sauvignon

FULL-BODIED RED WINE. Rich, Intense, Complex & Elegance of Black berries

The world’s most popular grape varietal is a natural cross betwwen Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc that originates in Bordeaux, France. These wines are concentrated and age-worthy. The rich flavours and high tannin content make it a perfect partner to rich grilled meats, peppery sauces and dishes with high flavour. Think New Ubin Seafood’s Chilli and Black Pepper crabs as well as our famously populat USDA ‘CHOICE” Ribeye!

The Grapes under Mendoza’s Sun develop bold, ripe fruit flavours that can handle judicious new oak againg programs. The region’s terroir offers exotic spice notes on top of the variety’s flavour profile.

Red wines labeled under RESERVADO are aged for at least 12 months.

CASARENA RESERVADO Malbec 2019

CASARENA RESERVADO Malbec 2019

Argentina . Mendoza

Malbec

FULL-BODIED RED WINE. Aromatic, Dense, Sweetness

Malbec is an inky black-blue grape variety native to Cahors in South West France, now better known as the iconic wine grape of Argentina. Through its success in the vineyards of Mendoza in particular, in a few short decades Malbec has shot from relative obscurity to international fame. At the same time, it brought Argentina into the global spotlight as a wine-producing nation.

Mendoza “Reserva” uses highest qulaity grapes, often from old vines in the higer elevation vineyards in Luján de Cuyo and Uco Valley. This Reservado Malbec is bolder, with black fruit flavours, chocolate, mocha and blueberry notes from oak aging.

CASARENA JAMILLA Single Vineyard Malbec 2018

CASARENA JAMILLA Single Vineyard Malbec 2018

Argentina . Mendoza . Perdriel

Single Vineyard Malbec

FULL-BODIED RED WINE. Unctuousness, Concentrated, Persistent Finish

The grapes go through a double manual selection of clusters and grains. After a careful destemming, the fruit undergoes cold fermentation to whole grain. To ensure maximum aromatic expression, a natural alcoholic fermentation begins at low temperatures. In the barrel, the wine undergoes spontaneous malolactic fermentation and is clarified naturally.

2018 vintage - "This is a selection from blocks of malbec in the Jamilla Vineyard, planted about 1995 on sandy and stony soils on the alluvial terraces of the Mendoza River. Unlike many Perdriel malbecs, this is a wine with a very fresh character full of red fruits and a slightly floral touch. The texture is light, but it's also nervy, with very fine tannins supporting the fruity flavors. A delicious, intense wine with very good acidity and an herbal finish—a new take on Perdriel." - 94/100, Patricio Tapia - Descorchados
